Platform Engineer
Growth is only meaningful when it changes lives — we’re building human connection into the heart of education. Come help us make presence possible for every student.
About Us
No Isolation is an award-winning scale-up in EdTech with offices in Oslo, London, and Munich building human-centered technology that turns absence into real-time participation, connection, and belonging.
Our flagship solution, the AV1 robot, is deployed in 19 countries with 4,800+ units, supporting schools to sustain attendance, belonging, and continuity of learning for children who cannot be physically present. Families consistently describe AV1 as life-changing - it rebuilds connection and continuity, bringing back everyday happiness and helping students stay on track to pass their grades.
The Opportunity — Platform Engineering
As adoption grows, we must scale to support larger device fleets, increasingly complex feature sets as well as new data-driven capabilities.
As our very first Platform Engineer, you will own the pillars that our product team and our robots build upon: cloud infrastructure, IoT device services, CI/CD, observability, security, and developer experience.
You are a technologist who thrives with people. Your craft is reliability and enablement. You facilitate the right choices, reduce toil, and turn operational excellence into a repeatable habit across.
What You’ll Do — Scope & Responsibilities
Infrastructure management
Automate cloud (and some on‑prem) resources and policies using IaC/CaC (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) for consistent, repeatable, container‑centric deployments
Engineer redundancy, routing, networking, and load balancing to integrate backend services with robots, mobile, and web clients; operate and evolve Kubernetes (incl. Traefik ingress)
Monitor and right‑size infrastructure against defined metrics; run regular audits and upgrades to stay current and secure
Site reliability engineering
Own and mature observability, monitoring, and alerting with e.g. Grafana Stack, Prometheus; implement high‑signal dashboards and noise-free, actionable alerts
Define SLIs/SLOs to clarify “done” and “good enough”; run backup DR dry‑runs; participate in incident response and drive durable fixes
DevSecOps integration
Build modern golden paths and secure CI/CD that make the most out of GitLab
Shift security to the left: scanning, guardrails, secrets/encryption, access & identity controls
Team collaboration & enablement
Provide hands‑on guidance to backend, frontend/mobile, and embedded teams; document things, lead workshops, and improve processes so the team can self‑serve
Align platform work with product delivery cadence; mentor on productivity enablers and change adoption; make platform engineering a shared effort
Selective opportunities (as bandwidth allows)
AI enablement: make our engineering team AI‑native (e.g., MCP/ACP, AIOps) in a safe, deliberate, and targeted way
Test automation: evolve regression/e2e frameworks, hardware abstractions, and data/process mocking
Data platform: improve pipelines for warehousing/analytics and potential production ML management in the future
Security stack: iterate on CNAPP, SIEM, ISMS, Compliance & Trust, dependency management, network and cloud security
What You Bring — Experience & Capabilities
Senior infrastructure leadership: 5+ years owning AWS-based platforms in production, including Kubernetes troubleshooting under load — ideally scaling IoT fleets with WebRTC streaming, sockets, and REST APIs for real-time reliability
Self-starting pragmatism: As our inaugural Platform Engineer, you thrive in greenfield ambiguity—methodically evaluating options, resisting hype, and prioritizing solutions that align with long-term scalability over quick wins
10x enablement: You transform teams by automating away toil: eradicating ClickOps, enabling local dev environments, integrating Terraform into GitLab CI/CD with OIDC service accounts, and curating Sentry events, refined alerts, and SLO-driven insights for proactive issue resolution
Cross-domain impact: Versatile across embedded, mobile, backend, and our emerging data practice; you influence company-wide KPIs—like user happiness metrics—visible to engineering and executive leadership, accelerating our evolution into a data-powered mission
Compliance-first mindset: Proven delivery of GDPR-compliant systems, with hands-on ISO 27001 implementation and SOC 2 readiness; you embed privacy and security as non-negotiable foundations, not afterthoughts
Technical breadth: STEM background with polymath experience in high-stakes environments; curious yet disciplined, you balance innovation (e.g., AI, test automation, security uplifts) with operational rigor to ship daily and sustain excellence
